No-Fault Auto Insurance Requirements in Florida

Several years ago lawmakers struggled with allowing Florida to require its residents to carry no-fault insurance. It was difficult for new provisions to be agreed upon and so the policy was put on hold for a year. In 2008 new provisions were created and the Florida no-fault insurance policy was instated.

Florida is one of the states that require all of its residents to carry no-fault insurance. This type of coverage gives people the ability to file for personal injury claims without having to go through the court system. Ideally, lowering the amount of cases held in small claims courts.

Many people struggled with the fact that this type of coverage causes policy prices to increase, regardless if the accident was their fault or not. Because there is not a requirement to prove the fault of the accident people are having to pay a large increase for their policy even if they have never been at fault for an accident. There have also been issues of people filing inappropriate claims and abusing this type of policy.

Because Florida is a state that has a large number of seasonal residents, they too are required to carry Florida no-fault insurance. Any resident who resides in the state for 90 consecutive days or more must purchase this coverage. If a resident chooses to not abide by this law then they are subject to having their license suspended. So if you are currently, or thinking about becoming a permanent or seasonal resident of Florida make sure to research the law regarding no-fault insurance.

Visit ChoiceAutoInsurance.com to view quotes from companies that offer Florida no-fault insurance. This type of coverage can be an added benefit, especially if you are concerned with making sure your medical expenses will be covered after an accident.
