How Traffic Tickets In Other States Affect Your Driving Record
If your business requires your to travel, or you just enjoy the flexibility of road trips, it is likely that you drive in a state other than the one which your drivers license is from. If you're driving from state to state it is important to know that breaking the law in those states still affects you and your record.
The Interstate Drivers License Compact (IDLC) is a membership states can join that requires the sharing of motor vehicle convictions with each other. What happens with the sharing of convictions depends on the state. Some states will only record the violation and not attach points, however others will.
How a conviction from another state affects your record depends on the severity. A small speeding ticket is not as likely to add points to your license as a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) ticket is.
Only these five states are currently not a part of the IDLC:
Georgia
Massachusetts
Michigan
Tennessee
Wisconsin
So remember, deciding to drive under the influence will still hurt your record, even if it is in a different state. Even, driving without insurance in a state where it is required, will affect you. ChoiceAutoInsurance.com encourages you to be a safe driver, no matter where you are.
